Applying for a Place

  • Children are generally admitted to the Nursery School in the autumn term following their third birthday. Start dates are staggered during the first few weeks of term to allow children to settle in easily. In accordance with the new (2008) LEA Admissions Policy, children may be admitted earlier, at the start of the spring or summer term. However, this will only happen in the unlikely event of there being vacant spaces.
  • Parents/carers wishing their child to attend the Nursery School should register their interest when their child reaches the age of two, or as soon as possible after this time.
  • An application form will be sent out in January of the year of admission, and will need to be received by mid April for places in the autumn.
  • Letters to families, either offering or refusing places for their children will be sent out in the following week. Where places are remaining, later admissions will be possible. However, places cannot be reserved for children who may move into the area later in the year.
  • When the Nursery School is oversubscribed, places are allocated in the following order of priority:

1. Children with a high level of need who have been referred by a Social Worker, Health Professional, Preschool Learning Support Teacher, Special Needs Officer or the Traveller Referral Team.

2. Children living in the catchment area for the nursery who had their 3rd birthday before 1st September in the year of admission.

3. Children not living in the catchment area who had their 3rd birthday before 1st September in the year of admission.

4. Children living in the catchment area who had their 3rd birthday during the term before admission.

5. Children not living in the catchment area who had their 3rd birthday during the term before admission.

In cases of equal merit, priority will be given firstly to children in public care, then to children who have a sibling attending the nursery at the time of admission and then to those children living nearest the nursery, as measured by a straight line.

Please note that our policy and procedures for admissions to the Nursery School are determined by the local authority.
